LOGAN, Utah – Following in the fast footsteps of some of her other Crusader teammates, sophomore Taylor Deskins is beginning her assault on the record books.

For the second time this spring, Deskins smashed the Northwest Nazarene school record in the women's 100-meter dash on Saturday with the second-fastest time in the entire Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Deskins clocked a new school record time of 12.08 seconds to place second at the Mark Faldo Invitational track and field meet hosted by Utah State, breaking her own school record of 12.28 she set two weekends ago.

"We continued to get quality performances at a high-level meet," NNU head track and field coach John Spatz said as Deskins' record effort was just part of a strong day for the Crusaders. "Numerous season bests, near school records and results near the best in the GNAC."

Deskins added a sixth-place finish in the 200 in 25.32, the fourth-fastest time in the GNAC this spring, then she helped the NNU women's 4x100 relay team with Lexi Tubbs, Kelly Nigro and Chelsey Knott to victory in 48.30 seconds.

Knott added a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.56 on a strong day for the NNU women, while Rachel Miller was second in the high jump clearing 5 feet, 3 inches and Taylor VanValey was third in the shot put with a throw of 42 feet, 2 inches at the NCAA Division I dominated meet.

And Caitlin Curtis added the third-best mark in the GNAC in the discus with a throw of 136-5, good for seventh-place Saturday after a GNAC-best mark of 162-0 in the hammer throw on Friday.

And adding a victory in the 3,000 meters on Friday night was Anysja Manzer in 11:10.31.

On the men's side, Cole Hoberg led the way with the best high-jump mark in the GNAC, clearing 6-8.75 to finish second, while the NNU 4x100 men's relay team of David Harris, Payton Lewis, Jacob Oswalt and Rimar Christie turned in the second-fastest time in the GNAC of 42.33 to place fourth at Saturday's meet.

Lewis added a third-place finish in the 110 hurdles in 15.06, fifth fastest in the GNAC this season, and a fourth-place effort in the long jump with the GNAC's sixth-best mark of 22-1.5.

"We were pleased with our performances and positive progress again this week," Spatz said. "We are looking forward to being closer to home the next two weeks as we begin to sharpen up and recover headed towards the GNAC championships in three weeks."

NNU's next meet will be in Hermiston, Oregon, as the Crusaders compete at the Eastern Oregon Invitational next Saturday.
