Several of the best American distance runners made the journey across the pond to Scotland this weekend for the Great Edinburgh XCountry International Challenge. This rugged and muddy course is infamous for twisted ankles and muddy falls. Of course, nothing slowed down Pennsylvania's Noah Affolder of Carlisle High as he went on to win the Junior Men's 6K race on Saturday. With the time of 19:29 Affolder became the first American to win this race since Kirubel Erassa ran an 19:54 to win in 2012.

With Affolder, Lundy, Hirsch and Vasbinder finishing one, three, four and nine respectfully, Team USA went on the win the meet scoring 17 points -- they edged out Europe, who posted 20 points.

On the girls side of things Team USA matched the boys by winning the team title by only one point over Great Britain, 23-24.  USA's Nevado Mareno was the low stick for the Americans with her third-place finish in 14:08. Right behind Mareno, with a fifth place finish, was the University of Wisconsin's Alicia Monson. Colorado's Lauren Gregory finished seventh and Taylor Werner crossed the line in eighth place. Mareno, Monson, Gregory and Werner combine for 23 points to bring home the win for America!
