Olympic Gold Medalist And Coach Chryste Gaines On Recruiting For Juniors

We caught up with Olympian and Frisco Heritage coach Chryste Gaines while shooting a Workout Wednesday video earlier this week. Gains attended Stanford University and went on to run as a professional. She was part of the gold medal 4x100m team at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and the 4x100m bronze medal team at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

After her career as an athlete, Gaines became a coach at the collegiate level, and now at the high school level. We talked to her about what high school juniors need to be doing at this point in the season to start to get on college coaches' radars.

Below are some of her key points and their time-stamps in the interview above.

Key Points:
0:00 - 00:40 - What college juniors need to be looking at in this point in the season.
  • GPA, taking the tests, reaching out to dream schools, and sending an email.
00:50 - 1:30 - Why it helps coaches to get an email from prospective athletes.

1:46 - 3:20 - Steeps towards finding your dream school.
  • Be realistic -- look at schools you will get in to.

3:30 - End - Be smart about your social media.
