VOTE: Who Was Maryland Girls Distance Runner Of The Year?

Abbey Green of Walter Johnson was simply on another level than the rest of the distance girls this season in Maryland. She went unbeaten against in-state competition including a sweep of the distance titles in the 4A state races. She ran PR's in nearly all 3 races with a 2:12 800 and 4:51 1600, while her 10:23 3200 was 2 seconds off a PR and #3 all-time in state meet history. She earned All-American honors with a 5th place finish and PR of 10:21 for 2 miles at New Balance Nationals, while finishing 9th overall in the mile (4:54).

Maryland Top 10 Girls 800m Rankings (Full Rankings)

Nyjari McNeil was consistently fast all season long at the 800 stringing together several 2:10's in a row before breaking thru with a season best performance in the post-season in a 2:08.39 state leading time at the PA Distance Festival. Instead of racing at New Balance Nationals, McNeil opted to test herself against college freshmen at the USATF Junior Nationals with a 14th place finish in the prelims in Indiana. 



Maryland Top 10 Girls 1600m Rankings (Full Rankings)

Mount de Sales Academy junior Samantha Facius won a pair of IAAM titles this spring in the 1600 and 3200, while running a 5:03 for full mile in the post-season in a win at the PA Distance Festival. Earlier in the season, Facius also clocked a 4:46 1500 at the Scorpion Classic.


Maryland Top 10 Girls 3200m Rankings (Full Rankings)

Only a freshmen, River Hill's Faith Meininger showed incredible guts in battling it out to win the 2A girls 3200 title with a 11:13 on a hot and humid day at Morgan State University. It was her second state title after taking the 1600 indoors. Meininger was also the Howard County champ in the 3200 and 3rd place finisher in the outdoor state 1600 meter race.
