Breaking: Oatlands Invitational Cancelled

LEESBURG, Va. - Meet management made the though decision at 10:00am on Wednesday that for the first time in 13 years the Oatlands Invitational must be cancelled. See below for the official statement from meet management.

"The 2018 Oatlands Cross Country Invitational scheduled for Saturday, September 15th has been canceled due to continued rainfall, continued rain/no sun in the forecast, and travel restrictions that a number of school districts anticipate due to Hurricane Florence.  Four plus inches of rain have fallen on the property in the last few days and more is forecasted to fall before Saturday.
We have been fortunate to never have had to cancel the meet in 13 years.  We regret having to make this decision, but our priority is focusing our attention on the safety and welfare of the student-athletes, event and support staff, and being good stewards of the property at Oatlands.  The course conditions are deteriorating and look to only worsen with the forecast.  The bus and car parking fields are beyond saturated and significant property damage would be caused on race day.  The potential damage to the property would be beyond what we can afford or be able to fix.  We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this causes you, your school, and your team. We look forward to your schools and teams returning to the meet next fall (2019).
We hope that everyone stays safe throughout the storm and good luck with the remainder of your season."
