Johnson, Weinheimer, and Macintosh Leave Simplot Victorious

It appears that the Colorado contingent going to Simplot this year was a bit smaller than usual, but still very successful.

Two of the three titles for Colorado competitors came in a traditional area of strength for Colorado programs--middle distance and distance.

Alex Weinheimer, running under the colors of Ric Rojas Running Club, posted a 1:53.11 to win the 800 meters by about a third of a second. A time such as this on an indoor track puts Weinheimer in the kind of company that includes another former Fairview Knight, James Hatch. At this point in the season, Weinheimer looks like the strongest threat to Hatch's Colorado all-classification record.

In the 3200, it was a one-two finish for teammates Kevin Johnson and Wes Rickman, with Johnson edging Rickman for the title by about a quarter of a second. Johnson won in 9:16.22. Walter Schafer finished fourth.

It was the 60 Meter Hurdles, however, where Colorado's contingent enjoyed the greatest success, taking four of the top five place. Kyle Macintosh, representing ATS Elite, won the event in 7.90, while both Tarique and Tashaun hill also finished under 8-flat. Cory Engel added a fifth-place finish. Macintosh also won the 400 in 48.06, followed by Derek McAllister in 48.28.
