The nation's No. 1 boys recruit in the Class of 2019 is nearing his collegiate decision.

On Monday, Atlanta Lakeside (GA) High School senior Brian Herron, the reigning MileSplit50 No. 1 athlete from this past indoor season, teased that his announcement would come on Saturday, and in recent weeks the elite sprint talent has posted about visits to Texas A & M and the University of Southern California.

There's no doubt Herron is in a class of very few, with the kind of talent that likely can contribute right away to a Division I program, but last spring Herron chose an alternate route to finish out his high school career.

This January Herron's club coach, Andre Oliver, admitted that the prep would be running for his track and field program, Flight 400, over the immediate future, and what followed was a Herron-less spring outside of a single performance at the USA Junior Championships in Indianapolis in the 400m.

That hasn't limited programs from chasing after the star, though.

There's a can't-miss appeal to Herron, who sports indoor PRs of 20.95 in the 200m, a national record of 32.64 in the 300m and 46.31 in the 400m.

Even without competing last spring season, Herron flourished as a freshman and sophomore, and has outdoor PRs of  10.75 in the 100m, 20.93 in the 200m and 46.07 in the 400m.

Traditionally speaking, an elite athlete in the 200-400 can cut times of 21 and 46.5 seconds or faster in those two events, and as a senior Herron likely will be eyeing up those very marks.

Herron admitted he'll sign alongside his club his teammate, No. 12 ranked Nicholas Ramey, another elite standout in the 200/400 who recently competed for the Team USA junior team at the U20 Championships.
