Taylor Wright Leaps Greatest Triple Jump Ever In Maryland

Not a bad way to leave your legacy onto the record books of high school track and field in Maryland. Northwest senior Taylor Wright competing in her final high school meet, finished as a national runner-up in the championship girls triple jump competition with the greatest all-conditions mark ever recorded in state history.

Wright leaped to a second place finish at New Balance Nationals with a wind-aided performance (2.6 reading) of 42'2.75". It unfortunately cannot count as a official state record being wind aided as Thea Lafond of John F. Kennedy at the 2011 Maryland State Meet holds that honor still at 41'8.50" with a wind legal reading.

The leap came remarkably on Wright's final jump and sixth attempt in the finals as she was sitting in 8th place overall prior to that mark and leapfrogged nearly the entire field of finalists to move herself up into the 2nd place position.

She also just missed out on a second All-American performance on the weekend clearing 5'8.75" for 9th ninth place in the championship girls high jump competition.

Wright racked up an incredible number of 13 career state individual titles during her time at Northwest High School in Montgomery County and honestly would have won more if Maryland contested the long and triple jump at the indoor state championships as well as numerous state runner-up finishes, relay titles, team titles, and All-American honors.

She finishes high school with the following personal bests: 6'0" in the high jump, 42'2.75" in the triple jump, 7.12 in the 55 meter dash, 11.75 in the 100 meter dash, 24.38 in the 200 meter dash, and 40.71 in the 300 meter dash. Wright will be taking her talents next to South Beach as she heads to compete collegiately at the University of Miami in Florida.
