Boys Recap: Highland Legacy Reborn

There is a new top team in the Southern Idaho Region. That team is the Highland Rams from Pocatello, Idaho. Entering the Tiger/Grizz Invitational Highland had their work cut out for them against the tough and gritty Southern #1 Mountain View boys. We were not surprised to hear the Chris Belcher led Rams walked out of Idaho Falls the new #1 team in the Southern half of the state.

Recently, Highland was awarded the 1984 National Cross Country Championship by Milesplit's XC Legacy Series. On the 18th of September a ceremony will be performed at Highland High School honoring that '84 team and legendary coach Bob Conley. Passing the torch to a new dynamic coach and a fast improving program things are looking up in Pocatello once more. Milesplit Western US National Editor Aron Taylor will be in attendance to award the banner to Mr. Bob Conley.

Led by individual champion Dallin Farnsworth (16:38.74), the Rams filed in for 77 team points winning over Mountain View's 94. Third place was Bishop Kelly the #3 team in Southern Idaho. Highland packed 5 runners in the top 30 in a huge 200+ runner meet. Impressive for a team seeking to regain the top of the mountain as Idaho's top program and team. It looks as though what Belcher is doing is working, great job Highland on an impressive victory.

Girls Recap: South ID#1 MT. View Defeats MT#1 Bozeman

In a championship showdown, the top team from Southern Idaho and most likely the State of Idaho squared off against the number 1 team from Montana, Bozeman. In a very close matchup Mountain View narrowly edged Bozeman MT 47-62. Bozeman is the recent winner of the Billings Invitational and the defending Montana State Champions. Led by individual standout Jordan Mathes, the Mountain View girls were just to quick, too deep, and too well grouped to be stopped.

In a true pack formation, the Mountain View harriers packed all five varsity scorers int he top 17! While, Bozeman placed all scorers in the top 19. This was truly two top tier programs going head to head fighting for every place, spot, and position. Coming in third was Bishop Kelly who demonstrated quit an impressive team showing scoring 71 points. By no means was Bishop Kelly out of this event as the team placed 2, 10, 12, 23, 24, 25, 26 witht he 3-7 runner finishing within 6 seconds, now thats a pack!
