Broncos Win Eight Titles in Blue and Orange Opener
Men earn seven titles, women one title in second meet of the season
NAMPA, Idaho In just the second meet of the season the Boise State track and field program showed excellent progress, capturing eight titles at the Blue and Orange Opener on Saturday (Jan. 12) at the Jacksons Indoor Track at the Idaho Center. The Broncos took over a month off from competition after their season opener on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, but had plenty of personal-best efforts in their return against tough competition from the University of Oregon, University of Nevada, BYU and Northwest Nazarene.
Will Lohman was a big highlight to the day, putting forth a personal-best effort of 60-5 (18.41m) to win the weight throw. Adding wins to the Bronco mens efforts, Manoah Wesson ran an indoor-best of 47.79-seconds to win the 400-meters, while Daveon Collins won the 200-meters (21.35), Allan Schroeder the Mile (4:20.96), Roderick Townsend the high jump (6-6.75 / 2.00m), Chase Sexton the shot put (57-11.75 / 17.67m) and the Bronco men won the 4x400-meter relay (3:26.43).
The Bronco women earned one win on the day, capturing the 4x400-meter relay title in a time of 3:54.15.
Wesson captured a runner-up spot to Collins in the 200-meters, running a time of 21.81-seconds. Wesson was followed by Karrie Butler in the 400-meters (47.96), while Jordin Andrade helped a top-three sweep for the Broncos in the event, placing third (48.07).
Rolando Trammel added two top-three finishes on the day, placing second in the 60-meters (6.97) and third in the 60-meter hurdles (8.03). Justin Malnes finished just ahead in the hurdles, placing second in a personal-best time of 8.01.
Kyle Brush and Wyatt Diederickson earned top-three finishes in the Mile, assisting in the second top-three Bronco sweep of the day. Brush placed second in the race, clocking 4:25.26, while Diederickson placed third in 4:33.10.
In the field events, Lohman added a third-place finish in the shot put to his day, throwing 56-1.25 (17.10m), while Matt Post threw 55-3.50 (16.85m) to place third in the weight throw.
In addition to the 4x400-meter relay win, the Bronco women recorded three top-three finishes on the day and 17 top-eight finishes. Tajanee Simmons tallied two of those top-three placings, running an 8.99-second race in the 60-meter hurdles and a 41.24-second effort in the 300-meters, placing third in both events. Mackenzie Flannigan added the final top-three finish for the women, placing third in the 400-meters in 57.34-seconds.

The Blue and Orange Opener was the second of six regular-season home meets the Broncos host during the 2013 indoor season. The Broncos continue action on Saturday, Jan. 19 hosting the Bronco Invitational. The meet, which will be held at the Jacksons Indoor Track at the Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho, is slated for a 9:00 a.m. start.
