Idaho State Championships Does Not Disappoint

3A

It was once again the Bair Brothers of Kimberly, Jaxon and Gatlin, stealing the show in their final high school track and field competition together. Jaxon, the elder statesmen in the household, saved his best for last. He would set two 3A class records in the 110-hurdles and the long jump. Bair finally leaped his way into the 24-foot club with his jump of 24-00.75 to win the event. In the 110-hurdles, it is a 'what could have been moment.' Bair left the competition in his wake quickly before hitting the 8th and 9th hurdle which led to a substantial loss of momentum going into the final hurdle, but still managed to cross the line in a new 3A class record, 14.29. Jaxon also won the pole vault (14-00.00) and placed 2nd in the 400 with a lifetime best of 48.80 with a finish that came down to the thousandth of a second. Sophomore Gatlin Bair posted three wins of his own, two of which were 3A state records. Modest by his standards, Gatlin won the 100m (10.72 -1.0), 200m (21.54w, 21.41p) and the triple jump (45-07.00).

She was also a part of the winning SMR team (1:52.61). Bonners Ferry's Asha Abubakari swept the throws with winning marks of 38-11.50 and 120-02.00. Payette senior Sydney Denison took state victories in the long and triple jump with marks of 17-11.50 and 36-10.50, both personal bests. Kimberly's Kloie Ward won the 400m (59.56), 4x200 (1:47.48) and the high jump (5-06.00), a new lifetime best for her.
