Interview with Ruby Jordan after her 4th Place Finish at The Simplot Games in the girls weight Throw
Milesplit Idaho: How excited where you to be competing at Simplot Games this year ?
Ruby Jordan:I feel like I've been waiting for Simplot to come back forever... this last year's preparation put me in a good place to compete, and I was stoked to bring home some hardware today.
Milesplit Idaho: Going into the Weight Throw what was your mindset going in and how did it feel to get a personal best in this event today?
Ruby Jordan: My mindset is always "Control what you can control"... and if I do that successfully, the ultimate goal is to come out a champion- whether that be with a PR or the gold. As for my PR today, I wasn't excited as I probably should have been. There is always something I can improve on, there is always something I can do better, there is always a bigger throw waiting for me to pull it out. Don't get me wrong, I am extremely happy with a 4th place at THE Simplot Games, but ultimately, this is a stepping stone to get where I truly want to be.
Milesplit Idaho: Describe the atmosphere at Holt Arena on day one?
Ruby Jordan: The air felt supercharged today. It might have been the adrenaline of competing and doing well, but being on the receiving end of so many people cheering is amazing... people I had never even met were cheering me on and congratulating me today. I love the track community.
Milesplit Idaho: What event would you say is your best event ? Favorite event?
Ruby Jordan: My best event is currently shot. On the other hand, weight is definitely the most fun for me... the feeling of winding that sucker around and letting it fly is so addicting... I can't get enough.
Milesplit Idaho: How do you feel indoor Track has prepared you for the upcoming indoor season ?
Ruby Jordan: Indoor track is a good stepping stone for being prepared for outdoor. The energy shifts for outdoor, and having a couple meets under your belt before that energy shift is critical for me personally to stay calm and do well.
Milesplit Idaho: Any final thoughts ?
Ruby Jordan: I was so excited to be back compete at Simplot Games that I went to the tanning bed for this!
Ruby Jordan Will compete in the Girls Shot Put her best event Friday at 10:00AM
