STATE... one for the record books

Rigby Girls, Rocky Boys - dominate the 4A - 5A State Track Championships!

It all started with a big downpour of rain that put a temporary halt to the 4A / 5A State Track Championships!  But the rain left and the field was dried up... and then the athletes showed up!  It was one for the Record Books, that's for sure.

No matter what the track meet... it comes down to the 4x400 - and the very last race surely didn't let us down.  5A teams Eagle and Rocky battled out the 4x400 with the finish 6/100th as Rocky Mountain's Jordon Wallin held off a charging Heckendorn with a winning time of 3:19.00 to win the boys 4x400!  As Wallin crossed the finish line, and huge roar from the crowd eruped capping off a dominant championships where Rocky Mountain Boys outscored their nearest team by over 50points!

As Rocky Mountain Boys (3rd Straight State Championship Title) enjoyed their victory, another 3-peat happened with Thomas Rigby of Boise!  Thomas came from behind to win the 3,200 on Friday, then the 1,600 and 800 on Saturday!  He defended his 800 in a time of 1:50.80.  The 800 time alone is something to talk about, but add that with the other 2 races - and Thomas ran completely "out-of-his-mind"!!  Thomas will take that fire to Stanford next year - good luck!!!

Then there's Elsja Mecham and the Rigby Girls!  If you were in the stands listening, you heard her name announced in every event she ran!She ran the 100 hurldes, 200, 400, 4x400 events to help her team beat defending champion Bishop Kelly in the Girls 4A.  And, she's only a freshman!

Minico boys, with their red spiked hair won their first boys championship edging Rigby 76-74.75!!

Eagle beat 2x defending State Champions Mountain View 102-93!

Great job to all the student athletes who have poured the heart and soul all year for this last race!!!

And... what's next champions (we are calling all you champions by the way!)... Summer (time off), College (little time off then start it up again), or if you still have gas in the tank - check out Broder Duel (Northwest Track & Field Meet in 2 weeks in Portland, OR:  http://www.borderduel.com/
