The story here is all-around talent, Texas A&M bound senior, Landon Helms of Emmett. Last year's 4A state champion at 15'00," enters the 2022 season with a personal best clearance of 17'00.75" indoors at the Stacey Dragilla High School Open. Helms has a personal best 16'01.25" outdoor to his resume from the USATF National Junior Olympics in Eugene in 2019. In addition to his pole vault prowess, Helms shows his range with personal best marks of 21'10 long jump (2022), 11.15 100m (2021), 14.18 110HH (2019), 39.44 300IH (2019). Helms has opened up the season with two identical performances of 14.38.

Luke McCorkle of Sandpoint has the best mark of 2022 with his jump of 21'11.50" at the Lewiston Invitational. Right behind McCorkle are Trevor Warren of Ridgevue (21'10.50") and the aforementioned Helms (21'10").

With last year's top three finishers graduated, it's anyone's event in 2022. Last year's top finisher from the 4A state championship, Kevin Tran of Canyon Ridge doesn't have a mark thus far. Middleton sophomore Patxi Franks has the best throw in 4A so far with his mark of 145'09," an almost six-foot PR from his freshman season to get things started in 2022 and is the third furthest throw in all of Idaho.

Last year's 4A state champion, junior Cole Miller of Bishop Kelly is the clear favorite in 4A. Miller came into the 2022 season with a best mark of 45'11" at the state championships and has already leaped to a new personal best of 46'03" thus far. A jumps specialist and all-around talent, Miller has personal bests of 11.33 (100M), 6'04" (high jump), and 22'06" (long jump).
